WEBINAR 5: Tuesday 26 May 7.00pm - 8.00pm. Embracing innovation in assessment: thinking formatively, reimagining rubrics and working with a LMS. Presenter: Amy Collins. Target Audience: Assessment in Languages can often seem a little overwhelming. Do I focus on accuracy? How do I assess using the Victorian Curriculum? How can I capture and assess spontaneous use of language? How can I assess all of the macro skills?
Amy intends to showcase the power of using a formative mindset to approach assessment in languages. With student input, rubrics can be structured in student friendly language with clear feedback. Amy also has experience in working with Learning Management Systems where she hopes to reveal the many options for assessing student work and the conversations to have with your Curriculum/Learning leaders in this space.
Presenter Biography: Amy is an Indonesian teacher and passionate curriculum innovator, specialising in boys’ education in years 7-10. She currently leads Learning and Innovation at St James College and works as a Languages Coach with Catholic Education Melbourne, connecting with teachers in both Primary and Secondary schools. Amy loves to look at Languages differently and is interested in ways of teaching Languages that promote a love of learning.
WEBINAR 6: Wednesday 27 May 4.00pm - 5.00pm. Speaking and Learning Activities (for remote teaching and in the classroom). Presenter: Jaclyn Curnow. Target Audience: SECONDARY Languages Teacher focus. In this time of remote teaching, you may agree it is easier to develop and strengthen students’ skills in understanding and communicating for written texts than spoken texts. How then can we develop and strengthen our learner’s skills with spoken texts? This webinar explores free, easy to use digital tools for speaking and listening activities. Teachers don’t need to set up accounts for students to use “Flipgrid ”, “Voice Recorder”, “Whiteboard.fi” or “Charlala”. Please note students draw on a canvas for the last two tools, therefore different writing systems can be written.
Presenter Biography: Jaclyn is a teacher of German, who has worked with Middle School Students and also Senior Secondary. She understands the challenges and exciting opportunities that Language Teachers have to build students confidence and skills as they learn a language. Jaclyn is the Languages Coordinator at Viewbank College and also teaches Digital Technologies. Her students enjoy using a range of digital tools which she embeds into the curriculum to engage her learners and provide differentiation. Jaclyn highly values collaboration and advocacy and is a long serving committee member of the AGTV and MLTAV. ___________________________________________________________________
